ZK-Proofs as Digital Non-Verbals
How do we trust what we can't see?
We have arrived in an era where AI can now mimic human speech perfectly - what it still can’t mimic, however, is integrity.
Humans are hardwired to detect lies. Even if you don’t do it intentionally, we are designed to detect ‘non-verbal’ cues; a break in eye contact, a nervous fidget, a change in tone. But with AI, those cues don’t yet exist - we get the ‘verbal’ output, but zero ‘non-verbal’ cues to verify it.
When an AI provides an answer, how do you know it told the truth? How can you be sure it didn’t take a risk by giving you unverified information? You can’t look it in the eye.
Sure, it can provide links to public information but checking these is a slow and manual task. And what if the proof requires revealing some confidential or private information?
Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) are the digital equivalent of non-verbal language.
Just as a steady tone and gaze validates a verbal promise, a ZK-proof validates a digital computation. It’s the ‘non-verbal’ proof that the AI followed the rules, processed only the exact data it claimed to, and stayed within its parameters.
New rules are coming fast. AI regulation frameworks like the AI Safety Institute in Australia, and the EU AI Act in the European Union are already providing guidance. We are moments away from the EU AI Act’s biggest hammer: High-Risk AI enforcement (Aug 2026).
If your AI helps people get a job, a loan, or a medical diagnosis, you’re about to be under the regulatory microscope.
Midnight Network allows AI agents to prove their outputs are valid via ZK-proofs while keeping the sensitive data they processed private. It’s ‘Don’t trust, verify’ on autopilot - giving AI a way to ‘maintain eye contact’ with the user.
The future of the web isn’t more content, that’s a minefield. We need verifiable content.
As AI agents begin to handle our finances, health, and identity, ‘Trust me’ isn’t enough.
We need digital non-verbals.
We need Midnight.

Also was very nice to listen to your Article with the Text to speech software.
Fantastic write-up, Dvnc! And I totally agree, the most cumbersome thing is checking if the AI has not lied and given a false answer. ZK proofs are definitely the future when we migrate heavily towards a fully autonomous world.
