How I Found Midnight
One conversation, one video, and a journey I never expected.
The sun was blazing down while I was out on a job with one of my work colleagues, Max. We were waiting for a contractor to finish some work, so we had some time to talk. Somehow, as often happens with crypto conversations, we ended up talking about the 2024 bull cycle and where Bitcoin could potentially go. We discussed different Fibonacci levels and what BTC might do as the market progressed, before the conversation eventually moved towards Cardano.
Max and I started talking about how decentralised the Cardano blockchain is, and from there we got into staking, stake pools and the reward mechanism. I was fascinated by the whole concept. The more we talked, the deeper the conversation went. Then, almost randomly, Max asked me, “Have you heard about Midnight?”
I had no idea what he was talking about.
“No, what is it?”
Max replied, “Here, watch this,” and sent me a link to Episode 1 | The Midnight Origin Story with Charles Hoskinson.
Later that night, I was lying in bed and decided to watch it. I remember being completely hooked on the video straight away. The technology was fascinating, particularly the idea of bringing privacy into blockchain in a way I hadn’t really considered before. I found myself lying back thinking that this could be an opportunity of a lifetime. It gave me the same sort of feeling I imagined someone might have had when they first discovered ADA before Cardano became what it is today.
At that point, I didn’t know where this was going to take me. I just knew I wanted to learn more.
The Application
On 23 November 2025, after some time had passed, I stumbled across the Midnight Ambassador Program expression of interest form. I immediately filled it out and submitted my application. Not long afterwards, I received an email thanking me for sharing my interest in the program and letting me know that the team would be reviewing the applications.
Then I waited.
On 8 December 2025, roughly two weeks later, I received an email from the Midnight Ambassador Program. The email talked about how inspiring it was to see people from around the world who were enthusiastic about privacy. I was introduced to Jack O’Connor, the Director of Community and Ecosystem Marketing at Midnight, and then came the part that really mattered to me. My journey was beginning as a Recruit, Cohort 1.
I started working through the Zealy quests that had been outlined for recruits and managed to stay in the top 10 throughout my Recruit journey. But for me, it quickly became about more than completing quests. I wanted to actually be involved with the community.
Over the next couple of months, I became very active on X and in the Midnight Discord. I was showing up every day, talking to people, answering questions when I could and trying to be helpful to anyone who was new. The more time I spent in the community, the more I learned, and the more I realised just how much there was to understand.
Becoming an Ambassador
On 5 February 2026, I received another email. This time, I had reached Alpha.
Reaching Alpha meant signing an NDA, receiving a new role within the Discord and gaining access to a new channel where I could talk with my fellow Ambassadors. One of the things that has stood out to me most throughout this journey has been the people I’ve met along the way. I’ve met so many great people through the Ambassador Program, and the community has always felt incredibly welcoming. People are willing to help each other, share what they know and talk about the things they are passionate about.
My journey had taken me from someone who knew very little about blockchain privacy to someone who could now jump into an X Space and talk about Midnight with people who were completely new to it.
That was something I never expected when Max first sent me that video.
Midnight had also started changing me personally. It helped me become a better speaker and, in many ways, a better person. I was becoming more comfortable talking to people, explaining ideas and putting myself out there.
A few months later, I became a Bravo Nightforce Ambassador. This gave me access to a private Discord stage where Charles Hoskinson hosts weekly whiteboard sessions for Bravo-level Ambassadors and above. Those whiteboard sessions have been an incredible opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Midnight Network and the technology behind it. Having access to that kind of knowledge has helped me continue learning and has given me a much better understanding of what Midnight is trying to build.
Finding My Voice
At one point, one of my friends on X asked me to join him on an X Space and talk about Midnight so I decided to give it a go.
We ended up talking for around two hours, with a heap of people joining the conversation, including Pete from Learn Cardano. What made the experience particularly special for me was seeing so many Australians in one Space, all coming together to learn about Midnight.
I absolutely loved every second of the X space!
After the Space finished, I started thinking about doing it myself and I thought, why not host my own? and that was the beginning of my Friday night X Spaces.
I started hosting Spaces every Friday night, talking about Midnight and trying to get the word out to my small but growing following. This became the beginning of my journey as a Charlie Nightforce Ambassador.
Every week brought new people and new conversations. I met people from all different parts of the crypto ecosystem, from SPOs to NFT creators and people who were simply curious about Midnight and wanted to understand what it was all about.
The friendships I made through those Spaces became one of the best parts of the journey. I started this whole thing wanting to learn about technology, but along the way I ended up meeting some genuinely great people.
DICKS
Then there was DICKS.
One morning, I woke up to a Discord notification telling me I had been added to a random group chat with about ten people. The name of the chat was simply DICKS.
Naturally, I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
It turned out that DICKS stood for Discord, Information, Community, Knowledge, Specialists. It was a group of moderators brought together to brainstorm ideas and work on ways to make the Midnight Discord a better place.
We started working together, throwing ideas around and trying to improve the experience for everyone in the community. We backed each other up, helped each other out and worked together to create a place where newcomers could feel welcome.
As time went by working as a team we all became close friends. Looking back, that’s one of the things I value most about this entire journey. The technology is what initially caught my attention, but the people are what made me want to stay.
From One Conversation to Learn Midnight
When I think about where all of this started, it still feels strange to me.
It began with a conversation on a hot worksite while waiting for a contractor to finish a job. We were talking about Bitcoin, Fibonacci levels and Cardano staking. Then Max casually asked me if I’d heard of Midnight.
I hadn’t…
He sent me one video…
That one video sent me down a rabbit hole that eventually led me to the Midnight Ambassador Program, the Nightforce community, X Spaces, Friday night conversations, friendships and opportunities I never expected.
My journey has taken me from knowing very little about privacy and blockchain technology to being able to stand in front of a room, or an X Space, and talk about Midnight with people who are discovering it for the first time.
I’m still learning and I don’t pretend to know everything about blockchain or Midnight. I don’t think I’ll ever stop learning but that’s part of what makes this journey so interesting. And that’s ultimately why I started Learn Midnight on Substack. I wanted somewhere to document what I’m learning, explore the technology, ask questions and share the things I discover along the way.
What a crazy story right? I was just someone that was curious too have ago and send in the application to the Midnight Team. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to start something Special.
Welcome to Learn Midnight.
I’m Omega.
